I am an experienced Educational Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with children who have academic, social and emotional difficulties. I have been a qualified teacher since 1997 and a qualified Educational Psychologist since 2003.
I am Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered and Chartered by the British Psychological Society.
I am a mother of two boys and understand not only from a professional level, but from a very personal level, the challenges and anxieties around parenting and educating ones child.
I work solely in my independent practice based in East Horsley, Surrey. I have extensive experience of working alongside schools, paediatricians, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, family therapists, family therapists, teachers and social workers. My independent practice is dedicated to providing specialist, effective, and thorough Educational Assessment and support for children aged 6-16 years old. My service also provides support and guidance for the parents, carers and families of these children and young people.
Psychoeducational Assessment is an area of specialisation. This includes administering and interpreting standardized psychological assessments (i.e. cognitive development, memory, executive functioning, visual perception, auditory perception, language development, visual-motor skills, academic attainment, socio-emotional and behavioural adjustment). Assessment also includes classroom and other environmental observations, file review, gathering case history information through interviews and checklists, and reviewing other professional assessments of the child. It includes a face-to-face intake interview with parents and teachers as well as a comprehensive verbal and written post assessment feedback and report to the parents, teachers and the school. Extensive interventions and solutions are recommended, in consultation with teachers, parents/carers.
As a result of the extensive Psychoeducational Assessments conducted on a weekly basis, I work very closely with many schools. I am a consultant to many junior/primary schools, whereby they seek my professional input and training of staff and pupils. My duties include consultation with parents, administrators, Student Service Co-ordinators, student support teachers, classroom teachers and other professional service providers.
In addition, training of teachers in the area of Special Educational Needs is provided to many schools within the area. I provide in-service training and development for teachers, teaching assistants, early year’s workers, health service personnel, schools and early year’s settings, voluntary and community agencies.
I am a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and on their Register of Chartered Psychologists. This means that I have undertaken Society accredited post graduate qualification and training, and have agreed to follow the Society's Member Conduct Rules and be guided by the Society's Code of Ethics and Conduct. Chartered Psychologists, in accordance with their code of conduct, have agreed to: maintain and develop their professional competence; work within their competence; obtain proper consent before carrying out any investigations or treatments; maintain confidences; and conduct themselves in a way that does not damage the interests of their clients, or bring the profession into disrepute. Please feel free to contact them or check their website for further details (www.bps.org.uk).
I am also a Registered Educational Psychologist with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC). The HCPC is a regulator set up by the government to protect the public. They achieve this by keeping a register of health professionals who meet their standards for training, professional skills, behaviour and health. For further details please see their website (www.hpc-uk.org)
I am a registered Educational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council in South Africa (HPCSA) and a member of the Board of Health Care Funders in South Africa (BHF).
